Bulgarian Protests
Since January 28, 2013, mass protests erupted in Bulgaria. The shear magnitude of these protests, unseen since the collapse of the Soviet Block in 1989, is astounding. Hundreds of thousands filled the streets of at least 35 Bulgarian cities. These peaceful protests have already toppled one Bulgarian government and, as they continue and intensify, may topple another that has replaced it. These mass protests are not limited to Bulgaria only. In about the same time, such protests have been taking place in Egypt, Slovenia, Estonia, Brazil and Turkey. The governments of Egypt, Slovenia and Estonia fell as a result.
Uranus/Pluto Square
The timing and intensity of these protests is not accidental. They all began when Uranus and Pluto formed a square (90° angle between these planets.) Throughout human history, all stressful Uranus/Pluto aspects, such as conjunctions (0°), semi-squares (45°), squares (90°), sesqui-squares (135°) and oppositions (180°), usually coincided with a dramatic rise in violence, political instability, wars and revolution. Thus, WWI occurred under Uranus/Pluto sesqui-square, while the Fall of Berlin Wall and the subsequent collapse of the Communist regimes in Eastern Europe took place under Uranus/Pluto semi-square.
The Uranus and Pluto entered their current square aspect in 2011 and will remain there through January 2016. Since the Uranus/Pluto square commenced in 2011, dramatic political events have already occurred around the world, such as Arab String, Occupy Wall Street and mass protests against austerity measures in Greece, Italy and Spain.
Uranus/Pluto Aspects in Bulgarian History
This mass popular movement in Bulgaria in 2013 is not the only time of political instability in this country that coincided with a Uranus/Pluto stressful aspect. As a matter of fact, most of the Uranus/Pluto stressful aspects in modern Bulgarian history coincided with dramatic political changes in this country. Let’s examine them one by one.
Uranus/Pluto square in 1876-78: An unsuccessful anti-Turkish uprising in April 1876 provoked the Russo-Turkish War in 1877-78 that led to Bulgarian independence.
Uranus/Pluto sesqui-square in 1888-90: No known correlation.
Uranus/Pluto opposition in 1899-1903: No known correlation.
Uranus/Pluto sesqui-square in 1915-18: WWI. Failed Radomir Rebellion took place in September 28-October 3, 1918, while Czar Ferdinand abdicated and fled on October 3, 1918.
Uranus/Pluto square in 1930-35: A paramilitary organization called Zveno staged a coup d’etat on May 19, 1934. In 1935, a countercoup restored the power to Czar Boris.
Uranus/Pluto semi-square in 1947-50: On June 6, 1947, a Bulgarian parliamentary leader, a critic of communist rule, was arrested and hanged. Thus began the communist takeover of Bulgaria. Soon, all opposition parties had been banned, while other parties either dissolved themselves or joined the communists.
Uranus/Pluto conjunction in 1963-67: An Stalinist coup d’etat failed in 1965.
Uranus/Pluto semi-square in 1985-89: Mass protests and clashes with authorities conducted by Turkish minority intensified in 1988-89. As a result, 320,000 Bulgarian Turks were expelled from the country in May 1989. A few months later, peaceful demonstration throughout the country toppled the last Communist government.
And finally, Uranus/Pluto square in 2011-16: Mass protests began in 2013 and still continue as today.
Saturn Interplay
In January-April of 2014, Saturn will join the Uranus/Pluto square by forming a semi-square to Pluto and sesqui-square to Uranus. This planetary configuration will also come into play in November 2014 through February 2015, and in March through November of 2015. In the 20th century, there were only three instances when Saturn, Uranus and Pluto formed similar configurations, which included semi- or sesqui-square aspects. This took place in October-December 1918, June-September 1947 and April-June 1948, and December 1987-December 1988. All these instances timed a significant rise in violence and political instability in Eastern Europe, including Bulgaria, as shown above. This brings us to the unfortunate conclusion: The political crisis in Bulgaria is unlikely to end anytime soon, even though the tensions may decrease somewhat in September-October of this year. Instead, the struggle will intensify in 2014-15, and the country may remain politically unstable even through 2021. Fortunately, this struggle will remain mostly peaceful, as was the case of other political transformations that occurred in Bulgaria under similar astrological configurations, as discussed above.
How Will It End?
Astrologically, the struggle of the Bulgarian people is reflected in the planetary interplay between Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Here, Pluto represents the corrupt government institutions, Neptune—the Bulgarian nation, Uranus—progressive revolutionary forces and Saturn—difficulties of the restructuring process. There is a significant possibility that this peaceful revolution will succeed in achieving at least some of its goals. However, this depends not only on the stars, but also on those taking active part in the events.

How did you determine the time of Bulgarian natal chart?
To have a chart of Bulgaria would be helpful, but not really necessary, I have researched modern Bulgarian history and discovered that most Uranus/Pluto stressful aspect timed periods of political instability and/or wars in Bulgaria, and most of its neighbor nations suffered from it as well. I have a longer version of the article posted on the blog. It provides more history of this correlation. Also, there is 100% correlation between Saturn stressful aspects to Uranus and Pluto political instability in Bulgaria and its neighbors. I can email this article to you if you wish. I would be grateful if you can provide me with an accurate astrological chart of Bulgaria.
